High in Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains, where the ridgelines ripple like a watercolor horizon and the air carries the scent of pine and wild mountain laurel, a new chapter in American mountain living is being written. The Auberge Residences at Primland, the first opportunity of its kind to own a private home within the iconic Lodge at Primland, Auberge Collection, invites a select few to live in a place where wilderness, history, and modern elegance converge.

The story of Primland begins in the 1970s, when French industrialist Didier Primat discovered 12,000 acres of untouched wilderness. He envisioned it not as a playground for excess but as a sanctuary of conservation, seclusion, and retreat for family and friends. For nearly five decades, the Primat family has honored that vision, protecting the land’s natural beauty while carefully shaping it into one of the world’s most celebrated mountain resorts. When Primland joined the Auberge Collection in 2021, its story expanded further, bringing with it Auberge’s reputation for design, authenticity, and refined hospitality. Now, that legacy evolves again with the release of a limited collection of private residences and custom estates.

The Auberge Residences are a portfolio of 25 fully furnished homes designed by the esteemed Hart Howerton team. Each home is inspired by the textures and traditions of the mountains themselves. Walls of native stone, expanses of hand-finished wood, and soaring double-height ceilings give the spaces a sense of permanence and scale. At the same time, light pours in from expansive windows, softening every room with views of ridgelines and valleys that stretch for miles. Locally crafted light fixtures illuminate dining tables made for lingering meals, while curated artwork and custom furnishings evoke the spirit of the region.

The kitchens are a chef’s dream. Wolf and Sub-Zero appliances, oak cabinetry, and stone countertops combine beauty with function. The primary suites are no less impressive, with spa-quality bathrooms that feature rain showers, steam rooms, and deep soaking tubs. Each detail—from the soft curve of a cabinet pull to the texture of ceramic tiles—has been chosen to elevate daily rituals into moments of quiet luxury.

For those who long to build something entirely their own, The Estates offer 26 homesites ranging from two to nearly five acres. Perched along an expansive mountaintop ridge, each site offers sweeping views of valleys, forests, and endless skies. Buyers may work with Primland’s Architectural and Interiors Guild to design custom homes that harmonize with the land while still reflecting their own vision.

Ownership here brings more than a home. It brings a lifestyle rooted in nature and elevated by Auberge’s touch. Imagine mornings beginning with yoga on a sunlit deck as mist curls through the trees, or afternoons spent riding horses along mountain trails where the air smells of cedar and wildflowers. Evenings might be devoted to fine dining at Leatherflower, where farm-to-table cuisine celebrates the land, or to the relaxed Southern charm of Stables Saloon, where stories are shared over comforting meals.

The resort’s amenities are world-class. A new pool and bar are underway, and a state-of-the-art wellness retreat already offers restorative treatments, a fitness center, and a movement studio. Outdoor adventure is part of the daily rhythm at Primland. Fly-fishing in quiet mountain streams, shooting sporting clays, archery, hiking, or mountain biking—all are led by expert guides who know the land intimately. For golf enthusiasts, the Donald Steel-designed Highland Course offers championship play against the backdrop of sweeping Blue Ridge views. And as night falls, the observatory at The Lodge opens to reveal skies so clear and dark that the Milky Way feels almost within reach.

As Will Rentschler, General Manager of The Lodge at Primland, notes, “The Auberge Residences at Primland bring the hallmarks of our brand—gracious design, authentic experiences, and elevated service—into private homeownership.” Here, the rarest luxury is not only in the architecture but in the daily life it makes possible: serenity, beauty, and the freedom to live surrounded by nature.

Construction is underway, with the first homes expected in 2026. For those who value provenance, craftsmanship, and the enduring rhythm of mountain life, Primland is no longer just a destination. It can now be called home.
