DEPARTURES
PLATINUM LUXURY
ON ISLAND TIME
Princess Senses The Mangrove and Princess Grand Jamaica offer an unforgettable escape in Jamaica, where Platinum suites with ocean-view jacuzzis, bespoke dining, and world-class amenities transform every moment into five-star indulgence.
SHARON ETORIA

The drive from Montego Bay airport to Green Island is an hour of pure Caribbean poetry. The road hugs the sea, where crystal waters shimmer in ever-changing shades of turquoise and fishing boats bob like brushstrokes on a painter’s canvas. Palms sway lazily in the warm breeze and the scent of salt and hibiscus fills the air. By the time my husband and I arrived at Princess Senses The Mangrove, our senses were already attuned to island time.
From the moment we stepped out of the car, we were ushered into a world of refined ease. Our butler greeted us with a smile and a glass of champagne, and we were escorted to the Premium Lounge where check-in was effortless. Within minutes, we were gliding across the property by golf cart, the lush gardens, sweeping pools, and glint of the Caribbean flashing into view as anticipation mounted.
Our suite, the Platinum Master One-Bedroom, was more than a hotel room — it was a luxury condominium. Expansive living areas and two elegant bathrooms gleamed with marble, one with a deep soaker tub so inviting you could happily stay immersed all day. Clean lines and soft tones were accented with colorful pillows that echoed the sea and sky. On the bed, petals spelled out a heartfelt welcome, while swan-shaped towels perched proudly at the corners. A fully stocked bar promised indulgence at any hour, and the balcony revealed the jewel of our stay: a bubbling jacuzzi perched above the Caribbean, with the horizon stretching endlessly into blue.

Mornings began not in our suite, but at the Jamaican Restaurant, where the aroma of porridge and fresh bammy filled the air. Evenings carried us to The Pearl Restaurant, where elegant plates and attentive service turned dinner into an occasion. Throughout our stay, the chefs — Shereka, Coral, and Marvin — quickly learned our pescatarian preferences, ensuring each plate felt like a personal creation: guinep fruit plucked at its ripest, garden vegetables bursting with color, and freshly caught fish grilled to perfection. Between meals, we indulged in a nostalgic scoop of rum-and-raisin ice cream, its richness a sweet echo of childhood wrapped in the warmth of the Jamaican sun.
While our home-away-from-home could have easily occupied us for the week, Princess Senses The Mangrove offered more. This five-star adults-only retreat is designed to be both playground and sanctuary. Guests can choose from 401 ocean-view suites and 14 overwater villas, each created with intimacy and grandeur in mind. Pleasure Suites charm with romance, while Platinum Club suites deliver private spaces, exclusive amenities, and the attentive service of a personal butler.

The resort’s pools are a world unto themselves, from quiet sanctuaries dappled with sunlight to lively hubs perfect for mingling. Guests can wander into the aquatic park, where laughter spills into the air as slides twist and turn toward glittering blue waters. For those who crave rhythm and movement, the fitness and wellness center blends modern equipment with inspiring views. By night, a vibrant nightclub keeps the energy alive long after the sun melts into the sea.
The rejuvenating spa is its own oasis, scented with native herbs and designed to restore body and spirit. Treatments ranged from post-sport massages to aromatherapy rituals, each one transformative. Entertainment never faltered, from cultural performances to spectacular live shows that kept the island spirit alive.
For families, the neighboring Princess Grand Jamaica provides a lively alternative. The family area connects to the adults-only side by a discreet checkpoint where a guard ensures children don’t wander into grown-up spaces. It’s a thoughtful detail, balancing the needs of both families and couples seeking tranquility.

Evenings carried their own rhythm. We lingered on our balcony as the Caribbean glowed in the last light of day, sipped cocktails and tapas on the terrace, and slipped into whispered conversations in the jacuzzi as the moon painted silver across the sea. Dinner at The Pearl, with its elegant ambiance, became a highlight, an intimate ritual of taste and connection. Rumors of a future casino hinted at even more excitement to come.
What lingers most is the balance of indulgence and intimacy. Princess Senses The Mangrove is expansive, with every imaginable amenity, yet it never feels overwhelming. It is a place where luxury is not simply delivered but anticipated, where every detail is designed to create a vacation that feels both deeply personal and gloriously abundant.
Next time, I will book one of the overwater villas, where the sea becomes your backyard and the horizon your constant companion. Until then, this journey remains etched in memory as the quintessential Jamaican escape, where five-star service, ocean views, and the rhythms of the island converge into joy.
