Cancun has long been known as a preferred destination for spring break-bound college kids, and indeed, with the areas hopping nightlife and miles of pristine beach, it’s easy to see why. But tucked away from the frenetic action that brings Cancun to life each night, this Mexican paradise has a quieter side. A side filled with luxurious spa treatments, breathtaking wildlife, and the kind of natural beauty that makes it the perfect escape for those more interested in quiet retreat than booming celebration.

The Coral Beach Resort in Cancun is a romantic couple and family-friendly option when you’re looking for luxury in one of Mexico’s most covetable locations. Nestled beside a dazzling white-sand beach near Punta Cancún, the hotel captures unforgettable views of warm, turquoise waters and the distant shores of Isla Mujeres. Fairly brimming with activity, including a spectacular, lagoon-style swimming pool with coves, fountains, and waterfalls, a menu of water sports including snorkeling, parasailing, kayaking, and banana-boat rides means older kids – and kids at heart - will never run out of things to do. Even the littlest guests will be happily entertained at the Kids’ Club, leaving Mom and Dad free to relax, rejuvenate and drink in some of that signature Mexican sunshine.

You’ll find more than six hundred all-suite oceanfront accommodations within the resort, each with a private terrace. The resort’s top two floors are dedicated to the Grand Club, where lavish services and above-and-beyond pool and beachside amenities abound. Guests to the Grand Club are also afforded access to a dedicated lounge and 24-hour concierge service. The most discerning will enjoy the two presidential suites, each with more than 5,400-square-feet of sprawling luxury across two levels. These private, opulent suites feature a private pool overlooking the sea, an impressive primary bedroom, Jacuzzi and steam bath, twin-bedded guest room, dining room, spacious living room, and full kitchen.

While the allure of pool, sun, sand, and surf is strong, the star of the show at Coral Beach is its spectacular GEM spa. The spa is a behemoth, 40,000-square-foot temple where healing and indulgence seamlessly meld. At the heart of GEM’s allure, one will find a unique hydrotherapy circuit. The ahhh-worthy adventure begins with a trip to the aromatherapy steam room, where guests are enveloped in a sea of moist heat scented with essential eucalyptus oil, followed by the refreshing sensation of a multi-jet shower. Time spent in the clay room lets the minerals and healing properties of the earth detoxify the body – an experience made all the more beneficial when followed by an exhilarating lathering of ice crystals. Guests are then allowed to take the chill off by spending some time in the dry, cedar-scented sauna before a final rain shower leaves you feeling reborn. But just as you think the experience is over, you’ll discover it’s just beginning. The pools of GEM are perhaps their most noteworthy feature. A bubbling whirlpool melts the stress away before a dip in the polar pool reawakens the senses. A pebbled walkway replete with warm water jets leads you to the co-ed “Pool of Sensations,” a cavernous indoor space where bubbles, floor geysers, water cascades, and gracefully designed neck jets remove all traces of tension from the body. Once guests have completed the circuit, they are ready to give themselves over to the spa’s talented technicians, who knead, stroke, and stretch their clients into a state of pure bliss.

The onsite food options are fantastic, from room service to beachside dinners to casual Champagne Brunches to the elegant, upscale Le Basilic, which serves French Mediterranean cuisine under the direction of Chef Henri Charvet.

While Coral Beach may have everything one might need for a glorious escape, the world just at the resort’s doorstep makes exploring a must - and those in the know make Isla Mujeres their first stop when exploring the areas around Cancun. The ‘Island of Women’ was once inhabited by Mayans, is now a colorful, quiet island, a covetable destination just a forty-minute ferry ride away from the action of Cancun. It’s a place full of local color, natural beauty, and ageless traditions where sport fishermen love to visit during the winter months and where snorkelers flock to dive into the island’s warm, calm waters. Just on the southern tip of Isla Mujeres is Garrafón Natural Reef Park – a must-see destination while visiting the Island of Women. Located at the southern tip of Isla Mujeres, Garrafón Natural Park offers everything from zip-lining through the treetops for the adventure-driven to sipping Pina Coladas from the comfort of a gently swaying hammock for those who enjoy their relaxation sans the adrenalin rush.
