ARTS & COLLECTIBLES
QUIET FORCE
Designed for the connoisseur rather than the crowd, this Theon Design commission is an air-cooled Porsche 911 elevated to collectible art through craftsmanship and intent.
MICHAEL SPEED

At first glance, this latest commission from Theon Design does not demand attention. It earns it. Finished in a restrained shade of Medium Ivory, with Grand Prix White striping and period-inspired detailing, the carbon-bodied coupe presents itself with the calm confidence of something that knows exactly what it is. This is not a car built to shout. It is built to last.
Conceived in close collaboration with a British client, the commission represents a distilled vision of the ultimate road-going air-cooled Porsche 911. Based on a 964 donor and developed over eighteen months at Theon’s headquarters in the heart of the United Kingdom’s Motorsport Valley, the car was stripped to a bare shell before being rebuilt with obsessive care. Every visible surface and every hidden component was reconsidered, refined, and optimised in a way that feels reverent rather than revisionist.
Beneath the classic exterior lies a level of performance that would surprise even seasoned drivers. Weighing just 1,150 kilograms and powered by a naturally aspirated 4.0 litre flat six producing 420 horsepower, the car boasts a power to weight ratio superior to that of a modern 992 GT3 RS. Yet numbers tell only part of the story. This is a machine defined by feel, response, and texture.

The engine breathes through dramatic open trumpets, delivering an evocative intake sound that recalls the great 1970s RSR race cars. It is a soundtrack that does not overwhelm, but invites engagement, rising and falling with throttle input in a way that feels deeply analogue. A switchable exhaust allows the driver to move effortlessly between discretion and full mechanical theatre.
Led by co-founder Adam Hawley, formerly of BMW, Jaguar, Land Rover, and Lotus, each Theon commission is shaped through countless hours of one-to-one consultation. Hawley describes this particular build as a car that “spoke softly” yet “carried a big stick,” a sentiment that defines its character perfectly. The aesthetic nods to the past, but the dynamic capability is resolutely modern.

COLLECTOR’S NOTE
A Theon Design commission is not a restomod. It is a ground-up reinterpretation of the Porsche 911 that respects the marque’s heritage while quietly exceeding modern expectations. Built over eighteen months and tailored to a single owner, this Medium Ivory commission pairs a 420-horsepower air-cooled flat six with touring-focused dynamics and uncompromising craftsmanship. With pricing from £420,000 before donor car, it is intended for collectors who value subtlety, mechanical honesty, and longevity over spectacle.

That balance is especially evident in the chassis. Tuned specifically for British roads, the car features touring-focused spring rates, TracTive adaptive dampers, and smaller seventeen-inch wheels that prioritise compliance and feel over outright stiffness. The result is a 911 that is as comfortable covering long motorway distances as it is alive on a twisting Welsh B-road.
Inside, the same philosophy prevails. The carbon fiber cabin is trimmed in rich Tobacco nubuck and Licorice leather, accented by ivory stitching that subtly mirrors the exterior. Recaro CS seats provide support without sacrificing comfort, while billet aluminum controls replace plastic originals with tactile, perfectly weighted alternatives. Even the audio system has been carefully integrated, preserving the cabin’s clean, analogue aesthetic while delivering serious acoustic performance.
Every detail, down to the weave of the leather and the placement of the pedals for ideal heel-and-toe operation, has been tailored to the client. This is not a specification list. It is a dialogue between driver and maker, resolved in metal, carbon, and leather.
In an era increasingly defined by screens, modes, and digital abstraction, this Theon commission stands apart. It is a reminder that the most compelling performance cars are not necessarily the loudest or the newest, but the most thoughtfully conceived. A classic in spirit, a modern weapon in execution, and a future heirloom by design.
Prices for Theon Design commissions begin at £420,000 for coupés, excluding donor vehicle, taxes, and delivery.
