In a heartfelt homage to the legendary Carroll Shelby and its history at the Florida race, six-time Rolex 24 Daytona champion Wayne Taylor recently acquired a stunning Superformance MK II GT40. This heritage sports car, adorned in the iconic livery of the 1966 Daytona race, commemorates the victory achieved by Carroll Shelby’s team with the remarkable driver Ken Miles behind the wheel. The acquisition of this authentic continuation GT40 not only celebrates an iconic moment in motorsports but also honors Taylor’s extraordinary record at Daytona both as a driver and team owner.

The 1960s are often regarded as the golden era of sports car racing, and the 1965-1966 battle between Ford and Ferrari stands out as a highlight of this period. The year 1966 saw the showdown between these automotive giants at the grueling 24-hour race in Daytona, Florida. Carroll Shelby, the founder of Shelby American, led the charge with the Ford MK II GT40. The car, piloted by the talented duo of Ken Miles and Lloyd Ruby, emerged victorious, signaling Ford’s determination to crush Ferrari that year.

Taylor’s Superformance MK II GT40, with the chassis number P/2480, pays homage to this momentous victory and the legacy of Carroll Shelby. The car’s livery replicates the one used by Ken Miles during the historic 1966 Daytona race, which was immortalized in the hit film “Ford v. Ferrari.”

Wayne Taylor’s passion for motorsports and his remarkable achievements as a driver and team owner are widely recognized. As a three-time sports car champion, he boasts an impressive record, including six victories at the prestigious Rolex 24 at Daytona, as well as wins at the Petit Le Mans, 24 Hours of Le Mans, and the 12 Hours of Sebring.
