Gary Hume and Giobagnara transform
American Tan XII into a limited-edition
work poised between contemporary art,
craftsmanship and functional design.

Giobagnara’s first Art Edition turns the domestic object into a new medium for contemporary art. Unveiled during Milan Design Week 2026, the collection brings together artist Gary Hume, designer Martino Gamper and Giobagnara’s mastery of leather marquetry.

A standout is the American Tan XII Side Table, drawn from Hume’s 2006–07 painting of the same name. Rather than reproducing the work, Giobagnara rebuilds its abstract composition in calfskin nappa and aluminum, transforming color into texture and painting into form.

Its dual-sided design heightens the effect. Gold and teal animate one face, while gray and teal define the reverse, allowing the work to shift with light, angle and movement. This changing visual character echoes Hume’s wider practice, in which glossy surfaces make each encounter feel slightly different.

Produced in a signed and numbered edition of twelve, American Tan XII occupies the charged space between artwork and object. It functions as a side table, yet its authorship, provenance and scarcity place it firmly within the realm of collectible art.

This is not furniture decorated with art. It is art given volume, texture and a place within daily life.
