“Roberto Juarez: Crossing Five Decades” is a significant exhibition at the C. Parker Gallery in Greenwich, Connecticut, showcasing the evolving artistry of Roberto Juarez from 1983 to 2023. This first-of-its-kind show, running through April 15, highlights Juarez’s journey through five distinct artmaking eras, offering insight into his impactful presence in New York’s art history.

Juarez’s story begins in 1981 in an East Village studio provided by the La MaMa Experimental Theatre Club, marking the start of his ascent in the art world. His achievements include a Guggenheim Fellowship, the Rome Prize Fellowship, and public commissions, such as a mural in Grand Central Station. Juarez’s works, celebrated in major museums globally, often feature vibrant colors and floral motifs, drawing from Hispanic and non-Western traditions.

The exhibition features works from Juarez’s V.P. era, inspired by the Vesica Piscis symbol, reflecting his deep engagement with sacred geometry. Edward J. Sullivan, Professor of Art History at NYU, praises Juarez’s ability to combine poetic engagement with emotive color use, inviting viewers into a rich, subconscious emotional territory.

Juarez’s art, a blend of tradition and contemporary experiences, offers a sanctuary where viewers can connect with humanity’s rich cultural history. The exhibition at C. Parker Gallery not only commemorates Juarez’s past contributions but also looks forward to his ongoing exploration and growth in art.
