In Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, Alice follows the white rabbit into the rabbit hole, to another fantasy world, and the Mad Hatter says: “There is a place where it is different from the world on the ground. It is full of fantasy and mystery….” According to Freud’s “The Interpretation of Dreams,” it is said that “The dream content is due to the formation of the intention, the purpose is to meet the will.” Dreams are a release where we can briefly escape from reality and experience deep relaxation.

Thanks to the creative team at Vermilion Zhou Design Group, when you enter Green Massage in Shanghai on Madang Road, you are led down your own rabbit hole to a fantasy forest that is designed to gradually disconnect your body from reality with a new sensory experience that slowly liberates the body to help you relax.

Located in the comprehensive commercial property of a prominent red building designed by renowned French architect, Jean Nouvel, Green Massage is a fully immersive spa. The massage space is devoid of bright lights and large open windows of the surrounding restaurants. Glowworm lights illuminate the cave-like entrance covered in large green plants, while oversized fantasy flowers lead you into the garden area.

The waiting area was inspired by the scene in Alice in Wonderland, where the Mad Hatter and guests were drinking afternoon tea in the garden. Guests’ senses are already immersed in the story. The dancing glowworm light in the massage area guides you into a deeper maze of fascinating flowers. The gradient light becomes the stage spotlight of the cave. Irregular mirrors once again reflect the fantastic feeling of a dreamlike world. “Our goal was to allow the tired body and mind to relax and stretch through the layers of immersion, says Ting Ho, Vermilion Zhou Design Group’s rep.

In the end, Alice found herself through the dream world and at the Green Massage on Madang Road, where the “rabbit hole” leads you out of the stress and tension of an unpredictable reality with non-incongruous comfort and peace.
